Not anymore, in baseball there are 3 teams that are the face of the game.

Dodgers
Yankees

In no particular order. The Yankees are looked at as the most hated franchises of all sports because of their payroll and winning ways way back when.

The Dodgers are the West Coast Yankees basically who have a rich tradition of pitching and players that is unparalleled. And basically made baseball what is it today by moving to the West Coast.

Cant really pick one over the other and the Red Sox are moving up in the discussion of great franchises in baseball.

So no the Yankees arent close to being the most iconic of Amercan Sports. Maybe 10 years ago, but now I would have to say the Lakers by a mile.

Yes they are, And I can’t stand the recent Yankee history-Steroids, Buying the best players every year, a crazy owner who fired the manager every other year for most of the 70′s and 80′s, and many of the bandwagon fans who only like them because of their history-not from their own knowledge of the game. Most of it (The rich history) comes from the Ruth, and Gehrig years.

Celtics, Canadians, Cowboys even though the Steelers have more titles. are all also Iconic tradition rich franchises that are hated by many.

On a national/international level, yes. In baseball, it's the Yankees. In football, it's Green Bay and/or Dallas. In hoops, I'd have to say the Lakers or Celtics and it's still the Canadiens in hockey.

Yes they are iconic and they also represent some of the worst in all sports (that is part of being Iconic).

1- They represent the steroid era.
2- They represent the change of sports from a past time to a ruthless business.
3- They represent free agency and players having no loyalty to their fans.
4- They represent the dirty athlete who is loved by fans who don’t care about his moral transgressions, only the fact that he wins.

Yeah, the Yankees represent all American sports, the good and THE BAD.

I’d say yes.

Baseball is considered America’s pasetime. The Yankees have been the best baseball team throughout major league history.

So I’d say they are definitely America’s most iconic sports team.

yes by far they won the most championships in sports history they have a well team and are abart of sports biggest rivalry Red SOX and Yanks

Yes they are.. Why u ask?

Just look at all their championships, the GREAT HALL OF FAME players they have produced, the Revenue they have, the WORLD WIDE fans. Anywhere you go the Yankees logo is recognized. Every single MLB player would be lying if they said they have not thought about being on the YANKEES roster. Thats EVERYONES dream. They bring class, respect and hate. Its the team you love to hate because they can get it all.

if you go to the FORBES List for sports.. which came out a while ago, you will see that the most known/recognized richest teams in any sport are

YANKEES, COWBOYS, DODGERS, RED SOX..
